Holland On 2019 Hall Of Fame List

Nov 14, 2018 | 5:41 PM

Ken Holland says it’s a huge honour.

The Vernon native and Detroit Red Wings GM has been named part of the 2019 class to be inducted into the BC Sports Hall of Fame next March in the builder category.

“I’m incredibly honoured and humbled. I spent basically the first 18-19 years of my life in Vernon playing minor hockey and baseball. My mom still lives there, my brother Dennis lives there, my sister lives in Victoria, so BC is my home. I’ve got a house in Vernon and still spend part of my summers there,” Holland told TSN 1040 after getting the news.

Holland has won four Stanley Cups with Detroit, and was a key part of management for Team Canada’s gold medal at the 2010 Olympics in Vancouver.

“One of my great memories of my career was being involved with the Olympic team in 2010, so a big part of my life is Vernon and British Columbia, and to get the call is really incredible for me.”
