Vernon’s Shanda Hill is out of the water, and onto the bike.

The ultra athlete is in 12th place out of 14 competitors (two dropped out) after the 38 kilometre swim at the Deca race in New Orleans.

Hill, the only Canadian in the race, has started the 1800 kilometre bike ride which her mom Arleigh says will take about 6 days, followed by a 421 km run.

“They’re not having great weather. She says it’s about 25 degrees Celsius, and there is thundershowers, so she doesn’t care for that. She doesn’t like getting wet so it’s not fun,” Arleigh Hill tells Beach Radio News.
