City Looks To Share Arena Use

City Looks To Share Arena Use

Sep 28, 2018 | 5:39 PM

The City of Vernon will work with the North Okanagan Minor Lacrosse Association to try to provide them time in local arenas.

The group expressed earlier concerns about not being able host provincials or hold practices in Vernon, due to year round hockey use.

Mayor Akbal Mund says he would like to see more tournaments which are good for the local economy.

“If we can find some way to put a floor on Kal Tire North, you could hold a major tournament in this community,” Mund told Beach Radio News.

Lacrosse teams used to use the Civic Arena until it was deemed unsafe to use a few years ago.

Mund says it’s not just lacrosse that wants to use the main arenas.

“There will be other groups that want to use that ice surface as well. I know the Snow Show comes into town. They’ve always been looking for more space, and now they’ll have more space, so they’ll be taking up that ice surface in a couple months.”

The City will work with minor lacrosse to find time in Priest Valley Arena and Kal Tire Place, and look at hosting provincials in Vernon and Armstrong.
