Injured camper rescued near Aberdeen Plateau

Vernon Search and Rescue (VSAR) had a fairly straightforward call for assistance Saturday morning.

At around 7:30 a.m. VSAR received a report of an injured camper who called 911 after being unable to drive.

“After receiving [the] call, RCMP was able to ping the individual’s cell phone to provide us with a starting location, but we’ve long ago learned that phone pings can be hit-and-miss…triangulation can be error-prone in fringe areas with weak cell tower coverage, people don’t always stay in the same place after making their call, and Forest Service Roads can be a maze to negotiate due to deactivations and seasonal issues like bridge repairs and washouts,” VSAR said in a social media post.

“So our rule is to always hope for the best but plan for the worst, and we sent out a crew of six, spread between three vehicles, and brought along our ATVs to cover all our bases.”
