RDNO Area C director looking to serve third term

The two-term representative for the BX/Swan Lake area will have her name back on the ballot.

Amanda Shatzko announced she would run for re-election as RDNO Director of Area C for a third term in the fall municipal election.

“I’ve had the privilege of representing the communities of BX and Silver Star for the past eight years, but Area C has always been more to me than a line on a government map,” Shatzko said in a release.

“It’s where I grew up, hike, create, raise my family, meet neighbours and work alongside people who care deeply about this community.”

Shatzko said she spent the past two terms turning ideas into reality. Those included securing the former BX Ranchlands and transforming it into the sncəcmałqtn Agricultural Park; championing the creation of the Rural Economic Development Service; playing a role in redirecting gifted water amongst the region to support farmers during the summer drought; and keeping the tax rate amongst the lowest in the region.

“Residents work hard for their money,” the incumbent director stated.

“My approach has been to make every local tax dollar work harder by finding partners and bringing opportunities home.

“Rural leadership often means finding creative solutions when circumstances change. After two terms, I know this community better, understand regional government better and know how to bring people together to get things done.”

Looking toward her third term, Shatzko said her focus would be on strengthening wildfire resilience; supporting agriculture and food security; investing in infrastructure and recreation; planning responsible growth; and attracting outside funding and partnerships.

“Eight years ago, many of the things happening today were still ideas. Now we have projects built, projects underway and new opportunities in front of us,” Shatzko said.

“This is the time to build on what is working, keep the momentum going and continue moving Area C forward.”

Votes will be cast in the local general election Oct. 17.
