A woman who is involved with lots of community work and the local business community will be running for a seat on Vernon City Council.

Sarah Moorhouse announced her candidacy with a campaign slogan I Love Vernon.

“As a mother of a young son, and the daughter of senior parents who reside in Vernon, I care deeply about the future we are building here,” Moorhouse said in a statement.

“I want this to be a city where young people can see opportunity, where families can afford to stay and put down roots, and where seniors can continue to enjoy a full, active, and connected life.”

Moorhouse said she was a “proud member of Vernon’s business community,” and through that scope has seen opportunities and challenges that need to be addressed within the city.

She also stated she had been involved in the community for years, serving on local boards, supporting non-profits, volunteering, and investing in people and places.

“I will work hard to support a community that is forward thinking, vibrant, and prepared for the future – one that supports local business, strengthens families, and ensures Vernon remains a wonderful place to live at every stage of life.”

The Local General Election will go October 17.
