West Kelowna joins federal housing design program

Jul 15, 2026 | 11:56 AM

The City of West Kelowna has joined a federal program aimed at speeding up home construction through the use of pre-approved housing designs.

Federal officials announced Wednesday that West Kelowna is now an official Local Partner in the Housing Design Catalogue, which includes more than 50 low-rise housing plans designed to help streamline approvals.

As part of the partnership, the city will pre-review designs from the catalogue to make it easier for builders and homeowners to move projects forward. Officials say the program will help support more housing options, including infill and “missing middle” developments such as townhomes and duplexes.

The announcement was made by Secretary of State for Defence Procurement and Kelowna MP Stephen Fuhr, alongside West Kelowna Mayor Gord Milsom.

The city says the move builds on its Housing Accelerator Fund initiatives, including updates to zoning policies and programs like the Grow a Suite Grant Program, which aims to reduce barriers to creating more housing.

West Kelowna joins dozens of municipalities across Canada using the Housing Design Catalogue as part of the federal government’s efforts to increase the pace of home construction.
