Rail Trail to be closed for erosion prevention work

May 4, 2026 | 11:05 AM

A major section of the Rail Trail in Coldstream will be temporarily closed later this month.

The Regional District of North Okanagan (RDNO) said the trail would be closed between Kick Willie Road and Kekuli Bay Provincial Park from May 19 to June 5.

“The closure is required to allow important erosion-prevention works to take place at approximately 4.5 km and 5.6 km along the trail corridor,” the RDNO stated.

“These works are being completed proactively to ensure the trail’s long-term resilience and continuity.”

The work would require heavy truck traffic delivering machinery and materials to the work sites, and the trail would be fully closed to facilitate that work during construction hours.

The Rail Trail will reopen up to the construction site limits outside of work hours, though those areas would remain impassable by members of the public.

A detour route would be available via the Kal/Crystal Waters Trail.
