New credit card scam comes to Kelowna
The latest credit card scam being reported by potential victims in Kelowna involves a pretty colourful story.
The would-be scammer pretends to be from a bank and tells the victim their credit card has been used for purchases on a Russian based firearms website.
The victim is then set up to go on a bogus video call with police to provide ID and personal info.
RCMP said in some of the cases, the victim is requested to sign a confidentiality agreement and asked to keep the matter secret. Police said fortunately, none of the victims reported having provided money to the scammers.
