Prescribed burn to be done at Ellison Park
The B.C. Wildfire Service will be conducting a fuel management and wildfire reduction project in Ellison Park.
As early as Tuesday, March 18, the provincial firefighting agency will conduct a prescribed burn covering up to 7.6 hectares of the provincial park. Exact timing of the burn will depend on weather and site conditions.
The B.C. Wildfire Service (BCWS) said smoke from the work may be visible in Vernon, Okanagan Indian Band, Lake Country, and the surrounding area. It noted smoke would be mostly visible on the day of the work, though may also linger in the following days.
The prescribed burn was said to be part of an ongoing long-term Wildfire Risk Reduction project in the park aimed at removing fuel loads and reducing the long-term risk of intense fires.
