Students add colours to Winter Carnival office

The annual painting of the Vernon Winter Carnival office got help from local and international students this year.

The carnival society invited three up and coming artists to paint some of the windows at its office at 3401 35th Avenue as part of the Carnival of Games in February 2024.

The artists were Elizabeth Wright, a grade 11 Seaton student; Estrella Tecuatl, a grade 11 exchange student from Mexico, and Suhyeon Jin, a grade 10 exchange student from South Korea.

The Arts Council of the North Okanagan and Transition Marketing Services sponsored the project.

“I really wanted to do video games,” Elizabeth Wright said. The three girls were excited to brainstorm different games and make their windows full of colour and fun.

The carnival society used the professional artist duo, Lynn & Robert Gervais from Demi Designs, to paint its largest window.

“Demi Designs has been a carnival supporter for years and we love their experience, unique art and support,” carnival executive director Kris Fuller said.

The window painting started Sept. 24 during the Sundog Festival and was completed on Oct. 18.

The decorating is a way to promote Carnival’s Best Decorated Contest, which starts in January 2024, where businesses and clubs can take part in window or office decorating.
