For people who deal with dry or watery eyes, there’s an exciting new possibility for finding relief.

IRIS Optometry and Opticians in Vernon has added a new piece of state-of-the-art technology to address this condition. Dr. Mark Langer is one of the optometrists at the clinic, and dry eyes have been a big focus of his practice.

He told us about this new way to help patients dealing with dry eyes. “We’ve recently invested in some awesome technology, like the Tearcheck, which is really the gold standard in analyzing and diagnosing dry eyes.”

It only takes about 10 minutes for the complete Tearcheck® exam to provide the clinic’s optometrists with incredibly useful diagnostic information.

“It gives me 10 different scientific reports on the various aspects of the tear film. People don’t realize, but the tear film and the tear systems are actually quite complex.”

These precise reports provide a more comprehensive understanding of an individual’s condition, within a shorter and more comfortable exam for the patient.

“So the Tearcheck is just an awesome device, to really nail down that diagnosis,” Dr. Langer said. “And then we can tackle it with targeted treatment.”

While watery eyes sound like the opposite of dry eyes, Dr. Langer explained it isn’t.

“Oddly enough, that’s typically also a form of dry eyes. What often happens is the surface layer of the tears is really unstable, that causes the eye to evaporate too quickly, leading to the brain just constantly sending more tears,” he stated. “That’s actually something that we can pretty successfully treat also.”
