Kelowna Airport back to normal…almost

Aug 25, 2023 | 1:20 PM

Kelowna International Airport (YLW) is almost back to normal as far as commercial flights getting in and out.

Airport management says the majority of Transport Canada’s airspace restrictions to allow for aerial firefighting operations have now been removed.

While some restrictions remain, there are minimal impacts to arriving and departing flights.

Sam Samaddar, chief executive officer of YLW, is thanking the emergency personnel who continue their work on the fires.

“I would also like to thank our passengers for their patience and support of the firefighting activities required to protect our community,” Samaddar said.

“The ability of our airspace to reopen allows YLW to once again provide passengers a vital connection to the Okanagan region.”

Passengers are asked to continue to check with their airlines for the most up-to-date information before coming to the airport.
