First Snow

First snowfall expected on Interior highways this weekend

Oct 20, 2022 | 3:10 PM

The first notable snowfall of autumn is coming up for elevated highways this weekend.

In a special weather statement Thursday (Oct. 20) morning, Environment Canada says drivers can expect snow on the Coquihalla Highway from Hope to Kamloops, the Okanagan Connector from Kelowna to Merritt, and the Trans Canada Highway from Eagle Pass to Rogers Pass.

The time lapse of the first snow is expected from Friday (Oct. 21) afternoon to Saturday (Oct. 22). Environment Canada says it’s due to a colder airmass that will arrive with a Pacific weather system on Friday.

Drivers are told to adjust their driving with changing road conditions, such as turning on their lights and maintaining a safe following distance if their visibility is reduced.
