Applications available for open burning permits in Vernon

Oct 19, 2022 | 7:00 AM

Vernon residents wishing to clear and burn materials from their properties can now access the permit application.

Vernon Fire Rescue Services reminds residents that open air burning is generally prohibited within city limits, however, permission may be granted for land clearing or agricultural purposes.

People can apply for an open burning permit between Nov. 1 and Apr. 30 of each year. Outside that time frame, open burning is not allowed within the City of Vernon.

Permit applications can be found at the city’s website. The forms must be submitted to Fire Services in person for consideration on, or after, Nov. 1.

Campfires remain permitted within city limits, so long as their use complies with the Good Neighbour Bylaw.

People having small campfires on their properties are reminded to only burn dry, seasoned wood; not leave fires unattended; be mindful of smoke’s impact on neighbours; keep water or a hand tool nearby at all times; and ensure the fire is fully extinguished before walking away.
