The City of Enderby is forecasting the flow of Shuswap River will decrease over the weekend.

As of Thursday, June 30, the upstream hydrometric gauge recorded the Shuswap River’s height at 4.38 metres with a discharge rate of 375 cubic metres per second.

The figures are down from those recorded Wednesday, when the river level was 4.46 m and the discharge rate was 390 m3/s.

The City said forecast models predict the discharge rate will decrease to 355.1 m3/s by Sunday.

The expected decrease will come along with warm, dry weather in the region, though more precipitation is expected to fall Sunday and into the coming week.

The B.C. River Forecast Centre is maintaining a Flood Watch over the Shuswap Region, and the City of Enderby is keeping its Emergency Operations Cente open to assist area residents with localized flooding events.

Residents and visitors are reminded to be cautious around riverbanks and to be aware of hazards fast flowing water can create.

Sand and sandbags are available at the Public Works Yard located at 2308 McGowan St. People are reminded to bring their own shovels to fill the bags.
