Spring Chipping Program

Vernon’s spring chipping program starts Monday

Mar 25, 2022 | 1:04 PM

Vernonites will be able to dispose of branches and other organic and yard waste as the city’s annual spring chipping program starts Monday.

The curbside chipping service will be provided in the City of Vernon and Foothills areas from March 28 to April 1 and April 4 to April 8. The service will be available in the Okanagan Landing and Blue Jay areas April 12 to 15 and 19 to 22.

The city noted that the service will be available on Good Friday in the Blue Jay area.

The service, which is available the same day and location as regular garbage pickup, will allow for a maximum of 10 minutes of chipping for each customer.

The city reminds people to:

  • Not pile materials with their neighbour’s items;
  • Not tie material together with wire;
  • Keep roots and dirt out of the pile;
  • Pile thorns separately;
  • Ensure branches and tree trunks are less than four inches in diameter;
  • Stack all pruning with butt ends facing the street or lane.

Missed piles not reported to the City of Vernon within 24 hours after the second week of the program will not be picked up.

Crews may not dispose of materials if there is an excessive amount or if the piles are tangled.

People are encouraged to contact the ity’s Operations team at 250-549-6757 if they have any questions regarding the chipping program.

The service is provided through the residential yard recycling charge on quarterly utility bills.
