Replacing infrastructure

Reconstruction begins Monday on Vernon’s downtown core roads

Mar 25, 2022 | 11:36 AM

Work to replace aging infrastructure and improve road access in Vernon’s downtown core is set to begin Monday, March 28.

City crews will be replacing the water main, storm sewer and sanitary sewer utility lines on 37th Avenue between 31st and 32nd Street.

The road and sidewalk in the affected area will also be repaved.

The road will be closed to through traffic during construction though detours will be in place and pedestrian access will be maintained.

Once the majority of the work on 37th Avenue is complete, crews will move to 38th Avenue between 31st and 32nd Streets to do similar work.

Only one of the avenues will be closed at a time to minimize the impacts these projects will have on residents and businesses.

Motorists are reminded to slow down in construction and detour areas and to watch for workers and other travelers.

The work on both 37th and 38th Avenues are expected to be complete by this fall.
