Vernon Chamber welcomes easing of COVID-19 restrictions

Mar 10, 2022 | 3:30 PM

The Greater Vernon Chamber of Commerce is expecting the easing of B.C.’s COVID-19 health orders to be a major boost for businesses.

The province is lifting a number of measures effective March 11 at 12:01 a.m., including the mask requirement. Other restrictions, including the use of proof of vaccination, will remain in place until April 8.

“We are very pleased to hear that B.C. is in a position to move ahead with a substantive change to the health mandates and we are confident that this will be a major catalyst for economic recovery,” said Robin Cardew, Greater Vernon Chamber of Commerce president.

“The removal of masks means businesses and customers can return to relationships where importance is placed on smiles and connections. And when vaccination passports are no longer required April 8, businesses and non-profits can welcome everyone. We encourage the public to use the lifting of restrictions to maintain their support for local businesses as they are the backbone of our community.”

The April 8 date will also see businesses be allowed to transition from a COVID-19 safety plan to a communicable disease plan.

Cardew asked that people be respectful towards business owners and their employees as, even though provincial orders requiring masks are lifted, businesses and non-profits have the right to set specific requirements for those entering their workplace.
