Interior Health tops B.C. with nearly 200 new COVID-19 cases

Interior Health had the most new COVID-19 cases of any health authority in B.C. Tuesday, and almost double that of the second highest figure.

The Interior reported 193 new cases Tuesday, while the Fraser Health region recorded the province’s second highest figure of 101.

In all of B.C., 466 new cases of the virus were confirmed Tuesday.

No new deaths were reported.

The number of British Columbians in hospital due to COVID-19 fell by 26 to 523 Tuesday, while the number of patients in intensive care fell by two to 83.

The provincial COVID-19 vaccination rates for residents five and older rose to 90.6 per cent for first doses and 86.3 per cent for second jabs.

The province noted that 93.3 per cent of British Columbians aged 12 and over and 93.6 per cent of B.C.’s adult population had received their first dose of a vaccine. The second dose rates were 90.7 per cent for the 12 and over age group and 91.2 per cent for the adult group, while the third dose rates were 55.7 per cent and 57.7 per cent, respectively.

There were still 28 health care facilities in B.C. classified as active outbreak sites, 11 of which were located in the Interior.
