Two COVID-19 deaths recorded in Interior, active cases surpass 6,000

COVID-19 continues to have an impact on the Interior.

Two deaths linked to the virus were recorded in the Interior Thursday, bringing the region’s COVID-19 death toll to 309.

The deaths were part of 15 recorded across the province. To date, 2,520 British Columbians have died due to COVID-19.

The Interior also had active cases rise to 6,067, as 563 new cases were confirmed in the region.

Those cases were part of 2,150 reported throughout B.C., where the active case count was confirmed at 34,835.

Hospitalizations related to the virus in B.C. rose to 891 Thursday, with 119 of those patients in intensive care.

B.C.’s vaccination rate for eligible recipients aged five and over rose to 89.4 per cent for first doses and 83.5 per cent for second jabs Tuesday.

The vaccination rate for British Columbians aged 12 and over was 92.5 per cent for first doses, 89.8 per cent for second jabs and 36.7 per cent for third or booster shots.

Additionally, 92.8 per cent of adults in B.C. have had a first dose, while 90.2 per cent have had a second and 39.3 per cent have received their third jab.

There were eight new health-care facility outbreaks announced Thursday, including the Westview Place in the Interior. Seven facilities were taken off the outbreak list, though none of them were in the Interior. As of Thursday there were 58 facilities considered active outbreak sites, nine of which were located in the Interior.
