High Fire Danger Rating

Reminder: Fireworks not allowed in Vernon

Jun 26, 2026 | 10:18 AM

The City of Vernon reminds residents that fireworks and sky lanterns are not permitted within the municipal boundary.

The reminder came ahead of Canada Day and as Vernon’s fire danger rating was increased earlier in the week.

“With the current high fire danger rating in the city, it’s critical that everyone takes extra care,” Vernon Fire Rescue Chief, David Lind, said.

“Under these conditions, even a small spark can start a fire that spreads rapidly. We’re asking residents to practice FireSmart habits around their homes and properties and to report any signs of smoke or fire immediately. We all have a role to play in protecting our community.”

Anyone found to be using or storing fireworks could be fined up to $300, with the city noting multiple fines may be issued for a single infraction.

People can still celebrate safely by using glow sticks and noisemakers.

The city also urged people to comply with bylaws when having campfires.
