Third COVID-19 death in Interior Health

The number of COVID-19 related deaths in Interior Health has increased to three.

“Today, Interior Health reported the third COVID-19 related death in our region since the beginning of this challenging pandemic – a man in his 70s who died in hospital,” said Susan Brown, president and CEO of Interior Health (IH). “This is a sobering reminder of how deadly COVID-19 can be and on behalf of everyone at Interior Health, we extend our sincere condolences to the family and friends who lost their loved one.”

The hometown of the person is not being released.

Ten additional COVID-19 cases were reported in IH overnight, bringing the total to 727.

There are 91 active cases, with no one in hospital.

There are now 16 cases connected to an outbreak at a Kelowna French language school (Ecole de L’Anse-au-sable). Approximately 175 people remain directed to self-isolate for 14 days

There are no additional exposures at Kelowna Secondary and St. Joseph schools.

Provincially, there are 287 new cases, including four epi-linked cases, for a total of 13,875 cases.

There are 2,316 active cases of COVID-19 in the province, 5,358 people who are under active public health monitoring as a result of identified exposure to known cases, and 11,244 people who tested positive have recovered.

Currently, 87 individuals are hospitalized, 25 of those in intensive care.

In addition to the death in IH, there is one other new death for a total of 261.

There has been a new health-care facility outbreak at PICS assisted-living facility. The outbreaks at Dr. Al Hogg Pavilion and at Delta Hospital have been declared over. In total, 21 long-term care or assisted-living facilities and one acute-care facility have active outbreaks.

There has been one new community outbreak at the Okanagan Men’s Centre.
