B.C. top civil servants cash in
The province’s top educators and executives of Crown corporations took home bigger cheques last year including two that received significant pay hikes.
The total compensation for the top 10 reached nearly $5.4 million in fiscal 2019-2020. Three of the top 10 work for B.C. Hydro and affiliates including the top earner again this year — Powerex president and CEO, Thomas Bechard.
The figures were part of numbers released Monday by Finance Minister Carole James in her fiscal year end statement. It’s the 13th year the the Ministry of Finance has disclosed the compensation of its senior management employees.
The Public Sector Employers Act requires disclosure of an organization’s CEO/president and the next four highest-ranking or highest-paid executives with decision-making authority, earning an annualized base salary of $125,000 or more during the previous fiscal year.
