Ninety new cases of COVID-19 in B.C.; six in Interior Health

It has been a troubling 24 hours in the fight against COVID-19 in B.C.

According to a news release from Health Minister Adrian Dix and Deputy Provincial Health Officer Dr. Reka Gustafson, 90 new cases of the virus have been recorded since Thursday (Aug. 20).

Those cases bring the provincial total to 4,915 since the pandemic arrived, spread through B.C. as follows:

  • 1,569 (Vancouver Coastal)
  • 2,572 (Fraser Health)
  • 160 (Island Health)
  • 417 (Interior Health)
  • 122 (Northern Health)
  • 75 (Reside outside of Canada)

The 417 cases in Interior Health (IH) represent an increase of six since Thursday.

There are 17 active cases in IH, with no one in hospital.

Within IH, the cases linked to Kelowna since June 26 remains steady at 166 with two active.

The outbreak at the Okanagan Correctional Centre in Oliver is up to seven cases (all staff).

The number of active cases in B.C. has jumped to 824, including 13 people in hospital and five in intensive care.

For the second day in a row, two people have died of COVID-19, both in the Fraser Health region, boosting the B.C. death toll to 202.

There are 2,594 people under active public health monitoring because they have come into contact with COVID-19 cases.

The number of those considered fully recovered from the virus is now 3,889, or 79 per cent of total cases.
