August most active month for wildfires
Don’t let your guard down when it comes to preventing wildfires.
That’s the advice from the BC Wildfire Service heading into the B.C. Day long weekend.
“Although the start of this year’s wildfire season was quieter than normal, August is typically the most active month of B.C.’s wildfire season. This is why it is important for British Columbians and visitors to remain vigilant and ensure that they are using fire safely,” a news release from the Minister of Forests, Lands, Natural Resource Operations and Rural Development said.
As of 10 a.m. Thursday (July 30), there are two wildfires listed in the Kamloops Fire Centre, one near Okanagan Falls (1.1 hectare, new) and another north of Princeton (seven hectares, under control), and eight active fires in the province.
