Highest COVID case total in B.C. in over two months

B.C.’s COVID-19 case count has been on the rise the past couple days with 20 cases reported Thursday and another 25 today.

It’s the highest one day total in over two months when there was 28 new cases on May 8.

The most recent total includes one new case in Interior Health (202 total) and there’s been one new death in the Vancouver Coastal region (187 total).

There are 172 active cases in the province with 16 people in hospital and five in intensive care.

The numbers were issued in a statement by Dr. Bonnie Henry and Health Minister Adrian Dix.

There have been no new health-care facility outbreaks. In total, two long-term care or assisted-living facilities and one acute care facility have active outbreaks.

Both Dr. Henry and Minister Dix said residents can take simple steps to help keep the spread of COVID-19 low and slow in British Columbia.

“When spending more time with friends and family, whether that is close to home or on vacation elsewhere in the province, we remind all British Columbians to avoid closed spaces, crowds and close contact with others.

We know that the more layers of protection we use, the safer we will be. Let’s all ‘layer up’ by washing our hands regularly, using barriers, staying a safe distance from others and using a mask when that is challenging,” the statement said.
