Idea for 30th Avenue road closure explored

Part of Vernon’s downtown could one day be closed off to vehicles as a way to improve the shopping experience.

City council has given the Downtown Vernon Association leeway to explore the idea for 30th Avenue.

In an update to its members, the DVA says it will be seeking input from its members in the coming months, with early feedback ranging from parking concerns to full support.

City council says the initiative should be driven by the DVA and its member businesses.

The City of Kelowna is trying out the idea, closing part of Bernard Avenue to vehicles until September to create a pedestrian mall to help downtown merchants.
