Four-day crime spree lands three males in custody

Jun 29, 2020 | 2:27 PM

Vernon North Okanagan RCMP arrested three suspects from the Lower Mainland on Sunday, after what-police-are-calling a four-day crime spree.

Early on June 28, the Vernon-North Okanagan detachment received a number of calls about a group of males allegedly bear spraying, robbing individuals and attempting to steal vehicles in various locations within the City of Vernon.

A multi-unit police response took place along Silver Star and Pleasant Valley roads in an attempt to stop a suspect vehicle.

“A spike belt was deployed by officers in an attempt to disable the vehicle, however the vehicle avoided the road block by driving off road, through properties located on the south side of Silver Star Road, and continued westbound at high rate of speed,” said Const. Kelly Brett, RCMP spokesperson. “Given the nature of the offences that took place frontline officers pursued the vehicle until coming into contact with it, taking three males into custody without injury.”

Brett said an investigation has found that at least 19 crimes committed over four days may be linked to the trio.

“Three males, all associated to the Surrey, B.C. area, are being held in custody to appear before the court.”
