Beware of the bears

Beware of the mama bear.

A local resident is reporting a black bear and two small cubs were spotted near Lakeway Mobile Home Park in Coldstream at midday on Monday.

A warning sign has been put up on Kalamalka Lake Road, and for those heading up Middleton Mountain, to be bear aware.

The BC Conservation was also notified.

Mother bears are known to be aggressive if anyone gets near their cubs.

Another caller said she spotted an aggressive cinnamon black bear on Grey Canal Trail, near Copper Mountain Court, on Monday.

On Twitter Sunday, the BC Conservation Officers Service said it was conducting an attractant audit in the Foothills neighborhood.

“Let’s just say we have some work to do Vernon. Garbage cannot be stored outside or placed curbside the night before garbage pickup,” the tweet said.
