Planning underway to restart recreation opportunities
Greater Vernon Recreation Services is working with provincial officials on a framework for reopening recreation activities and programs in a safe manner.
During Wednesday’s release of the province’s four-phase Go Forward plan, Premier John Horgan emphasized steps to reopen facilities and activities across the province will be slow and deliberate, and group gatherings of 50 people or more will not be allowed for the foreseeable future.
Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry stressed the need to continue with physical distancing measures to protect communities and the healthcare system.
The City of Vernon’s recreation services director, Doug Ross, said they are working closely with the B.C. Recreation and Parks Association (BCRPA) on protocols to cover physical distancing, improved cleaning of touch points and limiting numbers to reduce contacts.
