City advising motorists of planned power outage and snow removal

Jan 29, 2020 | 5:28 PM

Late night motorists in Vernon may have to brace for lights out in parts of the city tonight. A power outage is planned between 9 p.m. (Jan. 29) and midnight in order to complete an electrical service upgrade, according to the city.

Circling through the round-a-bout on 30 Avenue near the Schubert Centre may prove to be a challenge for some motorists as the outage is expected to impact the area. Street-lights on 30 Avenue between 33 Street and 35 Street will be blacked out, and the traffic signals at the intersection of 30 Avenue and 34 Street will also be impacted.

The city is reminding motorists to treat intersections like a four-way stop if the street-lights are flashing or blacked-out in order to comply with the province’s motor vehicle act.

Snow Removal

Around midnight, snow removal will be taking place along 27 Street between Hwy. 6 and 48 Avenue. City crews will be working to haul
away snow in order to increase snow storage and improve driving conditions.

The city is asking drivers to slow down and obey all traffic control devices. And if possible, avoid the area overnight.
