School District 22 registration dates set

Jan 7, 2020 | 3:04 PM

With the new year upon us, planning is underway at School District 22 for the upcoming 2020- 2021 school year.

Registrations for those entering kindergarten, new students, and transfer requests will be accepted starting Wednesday Jan. 15 at 9 a.m. until Friday, February 14, from 9 a.m. to noon and 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Parents can register their children in person at the school within their catchment area. All registrations must take place in person as faxed registrations will not be accepted.

Those interested in enrolling their children into the French immersion or the Montessori program no longer need to brace the long line up, as enrolment is now determined through a lottery system.

A copy of the student’s birth certificate, Care Card or B.C. Services card and immunization record is required for registration. Parents and guardians also need to provide two pieces of documentation, such as a utility bill or driver’s licence as proof of residency.

Three information sessions will take place in the district to give parents and students a glimpse into some of the specialized programs available.

Montessori Parent Information Night will take place on January 8 at 6 p.m. in the Silver Star Elementary library. This information session is for parents who are interested in learning about the Montessori program and philosophy.

Late French Immersion Information Night is scheduled for January 14 at 6 p.m. at Harwood Elementary. Late French Immersion is available for students in Grade 6 and is a two-year program.

Academies and Special Programs Information Night will be held at Kalamalka Secondary School on January 14 at 6:30 p.m. School District 22 academies include forestry, hockey, careers, earthquest, and many more, and enhance the traditional curriculum for students motivated to strengthen their skills and improve their abilities in specialized programs.

More information on the registration process and the Information Nights can be found on the School District website (www.sd22.bc.ca). School District 22 includes five comprehensive secondary schools, 14 elementary schools, as well as numerous specialized programs for all grade levels.
