Update: All that snow and a wet December

Dec 31, 2019 | 4:37 PM

UPDATE Jan. 1

The Vernon weather station officially received 30.7 millimetres of snow on Tuesday.

The general rule of thumb is 1 mm of water produces 1 cm of snow, but that can vary from storm to storm and from location to location.

Dec. 31

The snowstorm that deluged the North Okanagan Tuesday caused wet and icy conditions that led to vehicle crashes, downed trees and power outages.

There was a lot of snow.

Environment Canada meteorologist Armel Castellan said about 25 mm of precipitation fell on the Vernon area by mid-afternoon Tuesday.

On Monday evening, about 3 mm fell, he said.

The amounts add up to just over half the average precipitation for Vernon in December, given that is usually about 57 mm.
