Contractor says work underway

Huge potholes blew tires, say drivers

Drivers in the North Okanagan have been asked to keep an eye out and slow down for workers on highways 97 and 1 this week as crews are out filling potholes that have emerged since snow and rain hit the region.

Highway contractor AIM Roads said Monday that work is being done in areas from Crystal Waters north to Enderby.

The company said workers were also out filling potholes on Sunday.

However, drivers have taken to social media to complain of huge potholes, with one claim that at least nine vehicles blew tires yesterday on the highway between Armstrong and Enderby.

“Coming out of Armstrong towards Enderby, and there are 9 cars with flats,” posted one irate driver to the Armstrong-Enderby Rant and Rave page on Facebook Sunday.

Another driver told the group, “Both of my passenger side tires are blown and my rims are shot amongst other things that were damaged.”

AIM said the company has contracted a local paving company to repair potholes with hot mix asphalt, but the earliest they are available is Friday due to the holidays and no asphalt plants operating until then.

Meanwhile for its crews currently working on the highway potholes, AIM said, “If you see us working – please slow down and move over.”
