Police say a man arrested Monday night may be responsible for three robberies at the same Vernon business over the last couple months.

A man entered an undisclosed store in the Fruit Union Plaza around 10 p.m. Monday and confronted staff with a knife, demanding money.

The two staff members were able to run out of the store, and the suspect fled on foot.

“Frontline officers arrested the suspect at a nearby residence thanks to the assistance of witnesses who observed him fleeing the scene,” Const. Jocelyn Noseworthy, media relations officer said.

Noseworthy said investigators believe the man is also responsible for two other robberies from the same store that happened on August 27, 2019, and October 19, 2019.

The 51-year-old suspect is in custody and facing multiple charges.

“RCMP are recommending charges of robbery, assault with a weapon and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose in all three incidents,” Noseworthy added.

The suspect’s name is not being released by Mounties.
