Homeless in need of supplies to warm up

Feb 6, 2019 | 9:50 AM

With the bitterly cold temperatures blasting through the North Okanagan, The Upper Room Mission says the homeless are especially at risk.

They have put out a public plea for more blankets and winter clothes this week, saying the need has been urgent.

“The temperatures are going to continue to stay below freezing, and being exposed to that is dangerous,” said Josh Winquist, Community Liaison with Vernon’s Upper Room Mission, who adds that so far the support has been heartwarming.

The Upper Room Mission says they are still in need of sleeping bags, foamy mattress pads, and hand warmers for those on the street.

Donations can be dropped off at The Upper Room Mission located at 3403 27th Avenue, from 9 a.m.- 5p.m.
