Wilkinson Says NDP Pot Plan Hazy

BC’s Liberal leader feels the NDP government has dropped the ball on getting the province ready for recreational cannabis sales

While in Vernon, Andrew Wilkinson said the process has been messy, and the government could have done a better job

“And so the NDP said that they would have both a public lawful channel, and unfortunately they’re only gonna have one store open in Kamloops and the rest of it is a messy free for all.”

Wilkinson says there is no reasons British Columbians there isn’t a better system to get going right now.

“It’s not clear why the NDP dragged their feet on this, because you know this is a country that’s built on the idea of peace, order and good government. So if you’re going to change the law you gotta have the systems in place to accommodate those changes. We don’t have that with marijuana retail. So, the NDP have pretty much dropped the ball on this one.”

Wilkinson says the government will have to be held accountable if the black market-criminal channels turn out to be cheaper and more popular than the government system.

A government-run store in Kamloops will be on the store legally able to sell pot in BC come Legalization Day in Canada on Wednesday.

The government will also offer online sales.
