Sockeye Salmon Spawn On

Sockeye Salmon Spawn On

Oct 14, 2018 | 8:32 AM

Once again locals from Okanagan Falls to Skaha Lake will be treated to the wonders of the salmon spawn.

Officials estimate as many as six-thousand brilliant Sockeye salmon will be returning to their spawning grounds after a four-year cycle.

This year will be a bit different as the Okanagan Nation Alliance have been diligent in seeing the fish migrate to both Skaha and Okanagan Lakes. In the past they have traditionally migrated to the McIntyre Dam.

Herb Alex, Okanagan Nation Alliance’s facilities maintenance coordinator, says this is the first year the fish are returning.
