Lumby Seeks Affordable Housing Grant

Lumby Seeks Affordable Housing Grant

Sep 6, 2018 | 10:37 AM

Lumby is moving forward in its plan to add more affordable housing to the community.

Council has approved a resolution calling for staff to submit an application for a provincial grant through BC Housing’s the Building BC: Community Housing Fund

It’s a major project of Mayor Kevin Acton.

“In order to make that grant we had to,um, the application had to find a few areas that we’d be willing to do some density housing and of course we’ve got some properties down on the flats down here closer to town that would be really suitable for that type of housing.”

That’s the Shields Avenue lands near saddle Mountain.

“There’s some space in behind where the O.A.P. Hall is. We looked and talked about some housing in there that may even include a new O.A.P. Hall
or help support the one that’s there.”

Acton says the applications should go out in the next month or so.

He says he’ll likely put a plug in for it when he attends the UBCM next week.
