Findlay Creek Fire: Additional Evacuation Orders

Sep 4, 2017 | 6:40 AM

Fifty-five properties west of Summerland have been placed under an evacuation order due to the aggressive Finlay Creek wildfire burning 7.5 kilometres southwest of Peachland.

Properties in Meadow Valley, Darke Creek and North Fish Lake Rd. areas are in the process of being evacuated by first responders.

The BC Wildfire Service, RCMP, Penticton Search and Rescue and the Summerland Fire Service are on scene as the evacuation order straddles both the District of Summerland and Regional District of Okanagan Similkameen borders. The ESS will reopen Monday and Tuesday 8am to 5 pm.

Crews and heavy equipment worked overnight on building guards around the fire’s perimeter, but were challenged by fire behaviour. The fire remained active throughout the night leading to this increased size. Last night there were seven firefighters and four pieces of heavy equipment working on building guard and establishing containment.

Today, crews and air support will continue to work on containment.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
