Update: 7 pm
It was one of those fires that could have been a lot worse.
A small fire broke out Tuesday afternoon just after 4 pm in a heavily treed area off Dixon Dam Road near Tillicum Road in the BX.
Crews from BX-Swan Lake, Vernon and the BC Wildfire Service worked on it from the ground and air and had it contained within a couple of hours.
According to the property owner, a group of civilians spotted the smoke first, and used a truck to ram through a private property gate to get to the fire site, and started dousing it with water.
Jody Lucius from the Wildfire Service says the cause is being looked into.
“It’s under investigation and we do have cause personnel on route to the site,” she told Kiss FM.
There is no official size but the fire was believed to be under a hectare in size.
There were homes in the area, but none were threatened.
Fire officials say the lack of wind helped to keep the fire from spreading.
Update 5:50 pm:
BX Swan Lake Fire officials say the fire is now 100% contained.
