Coldstream Mayor Seeks Comment On Flood Response

Aug 29, 2017 | 11:08 AM

Coldstream Council wants to hear from residents what they thought of the District’s flood response.

Mayor Jim Garlick brought the issue up at Council Monday night.

“If there are some places where we can improve we’ll do that. So what we’d like is for people to give written suggestions, comments into the District and we’ll proceed where we can.”

Garlick says it was Coldstream’s Emergency Services first emergency since splitting from the original system managed by Vernon.

He says there are some obvious questions that can be covered.

“Information about locations about sandbags and where sand is. How to fill sandbags.”

He wonders as well if there is an opportunity to post lists of volunteer groups that can help or contractors whose services might be available.”

The Mayor says it’s also important for the District to outline what it’s abilities are and where the provincial government comes in.

“So, for example the sandbags, the bags themselves come from the province. The sand is paid for by the province. Other works that are done are paid for by the province but not all things are approved by the, So we have to put in applications.”

He says people can either send in a letter or comment on the District’s website
