Spallumcheen Gets Heard on Hullcar

Aug 25, 2017 | 11:16 AM

Spallumcheen Mayor Janice Brown can`t be more pleased at the meeting the Township had with Environment Ministry officials Thursday afternoon on the Hullcar Aquifer.

Assistant Deputy Environment Minister Jennifer McGuire led the government team.

Brown says it`s a breath of fresh air.

“Well, yeah, there seems to be a solution. Before it was let`s get the facts, let`s get the facts. Then the facts came and it was, well, actually, we don`t want to do anything. Nobody would take the call.”

Brown says she and others were able to speak freely.

“And so everything we talked about she was very positive. We came out of there thinking before they would listen but they wouldn’t necessarily agree with us or they wouldn’t make a comment to indicate they got it.”

She says McGuire assured them all the information would be compiled along with the results of a government review and Environment Minister George Heyman will take action. `

Brown says McGuire couldn’t give an indication how long after that it would be before anything more happens
