New Fires in Vernon District Actioned
The BC Wildfire Service says crews are actioning six lightning caused fires in the Vernon Forest District, all believed to be in the Enderby area.
Emily Begim from the Wildfire Service says one is east of the Enderby Cliffs and is spot sized (under a tenth of a hectare).
“It’s difficult to access so we sent a rappel crew, with three firefighters on scene,” Begim tells Kiss FM.
The others are Ampsey Arm which also difficult to access with a rappel crew on it, and is 0.1 hectares.
There is also one at Wat Creek, with 3 firefighters, a helicopter and air tanker on site, and 0.1 hectares in size.
Another fire is near Ashton Creek, east of Enderby, with air support from a tanker and four firefighters, and a size of 0.3 hectares.
There is also two fires north of Mabel Lake, both spot sized with firefighters on scene.
“All of the fires are in the same (general) area. That’s why we think it’s lightning. We received a lot of lightning there last night,” says Begim.
