Food Bank Needs Help

Aug 24, 2017 | 9:15 AM

The Vernon branch of the Salvation Army needs your help.

It’s food bank shelves are extremely low.

Lieutenant Stefan Reid says there is a wide range of essentials they need.

“Spaghetti sauce, canned veggies, ravioli, canned tomatoes, dry pasta, sidekicks, canned fruit, ichiban, jello, rice, rolled oats, sugar and toilet paper.”

Cash donations are also accepted.

“And then we can go out and buy these items, but maybe we can issue that one bag challenge that was started last year and challenge the community and each other to bring in a bag of donated goods to their local food bank.”

The food bank is helping about 25 families a day plus emergency hampers.

It’s given out 110 so far this year.

Lieutenant Reid says this time of year usually low for supplies

“You know out demand this year seem,s to be higher and we’re seeing about 25 to 30 families a day, so we’re booking two weeks in advance right now for food hamper appointments.”

The food bank also supplies emergency hampers and has given out 110 so far this year.

Reid says a lot of monetary donations came in over the summer specifically designated for wildfire relief.

Donations can be dropped off at the House of Hope downtown and at Civic Sounds tonight.
