Non Profit Seeks Help From Flood Recovery

A local group that helps people with developmental disabilities is looking for some help itself.

Kindale was devastated by flooding at its Armstrong site back in May — with over 50-thousand dollars damage.

The Bechtold Centre and the lower floor of Independent Generation are still closed as a result.

Development officer Cindy Masters says insurance will cover some of the demage, but not donated items like musical instruments and a sound system.

“Insurance will cover the repairs, the bricks and mortar, the desks and those sorts of things, but not the things to make programming better,” Masters tells Kiss FM.

Masters says they also lost a donated pool table.

“We had an absolutely beautiful pool table and that would not be covered under insurance because it was donated to us, so it’s not listed as being a valuable,” Masters tells kiss FM.

People are asked to donate to the non profit group, or attend an upcoming charity event supporting Kindale.

“There are several ways that the community can help,” says Masters. “Donations can be dropped off at the Lydia Boss Centre at 2725A Patterson Avenue, online though Canada Helps on our website www.kindale.net, attend the Lake City Casino Charity BBQ at Match Eatery on September 17 in Vernon, Hot Dog Sale at Askew’s on Friday, September 29 in Armstrong, BBQ at Urban Market on  October 4th in Salmon Arm or the 30th Anniversary of the Autumn Celebration on Saturday, October 14th in Armstrong.”
