Bike Skills Park On Track For Vernon

Jul 31, 2017 | 6:11 AM

There’s a lot of excitement about a new bike skills park planned for Vernon’s Becker Park, west of the curling club.

The 80-thousand dollar facility is being funding by the City of Vernon and local groups.

Parks planner Kendra Kryszak says the final designs will be next, with work on the jumps and tracks to start in late August.

“We are staging material right now at the base of the Becker hill. We should have it all finished and wrapped up by November at the latest.”

At a recent open house attended by 130 people, Kryszak says users were split on using asphalt or compacted soil for the tracks.

“A lot of people enjoy the asphalt for the pump tracks, whereas the climb-up and the descend down would be preferable for the compact soil,” Kryszak tells Kiss FM.

Kryszak says the North Okanagan Cycling Society has helped out planning the facility and getting grants.

“We’re excited to see it unfold, and if you go to www.engagevernon you can keep updated, we will post the final plan there.”

The Ford Family Foundation, Funtastic, Kal Rotary and the Community Foundation of North Okanagan are contributing to the project.
