Speed bumps An Issue In Coldstream

Jul 26, 2017 | 5:50 AM

The District of Coldstream is holding off putting in speed bumps on a street residents say drivers are using as an alternate route and driving too fast.

Plans were to put speed bumps on Sage Drive but council is holding off until new traffic counters and speed readers are bought.

Mayor Jim Garlick says council wants to make the right decision.

“So we’re getting a hold of those. We’re going to put them in place on Sage. Take the measurements and start collecting the data so we have a better idea of what’s happening there.”

Council also wants to see if there are other ways to slow traffic down and not create a problem elsewhere.

Coldstream council earlier received a petition from residents of Sage asking for help.

Monday night, another petition was presented, signed by drivers who use the road, against the idea of speed bumps.

Garlick says it’s not isolated.

“We’re having to look at this in a lot of areas in the community. I think It’s all over the place. People just don’t respect speed limits anymore”

He says it’s even more than that when cyclists and pedestrians need to be more are of drivers going to fast.
