Lake Country Evacuation Alert Continues
Five hundred and 80 properties are on evacuation alert In Lake Country east of Highway 97 and Wood lake South.
Tom Wilson with the Central Okanagan Regional District’s Emergency Operations Centre says the snow melt and weather forecast are ominous.
” The creeks in that area are rising and we’re anticipating a lot of rain coming on Thursday too.”
Tom Wilson says it’s not just the creeks and streams that are of concern.
” It’s the lake itself, you know Wood Lake and Duck Lake are quickly reaching their capacities if not exceeding them in some spots already.”
The Regional District is now working on supplying sandbags.
” We gotta ramp up and get more sand and more bags to more locations is one of the plans we have in the works today. We’re just going about the logistics of getting that done.”

Residents in this area should be prepared to leave their homes on short notice should conditions along creeks worsen. They may also wish to take steps to protect their properties from potential flooding by sandbagging.
Sand and sandbags are available in Lake Country at Swalwell Park at 9950 Bottom Wood Lake Rd. Sand only is available at Holiday Park Resort at 415 Commonwealth Road.
An evacuation order was also issued within Okanagan Indian Band IR#7 for:
